Our faith is very important to us and is a part of our everyday lives. You will see this reflected in our writings and graphics as well as in the products we recommend. The statements below are the basic things we as Christians believe to be true.
God – We believe that God is the one and only holy God, the creator and sustainer of all things. He is omnipotent (all powerful, almighty), omniscient (all knowing), and omnipresent ( able to be everywhere at once), and is worthy of all worship and praise. He is good and loving, wise and just. He is due our undying love, worship and allegiance, not only because of what He does for us, but simply because He is God.
Man – We believed that man was created in the image of God, and that all men everywhere are loved by God. Because of our sinful natures, our sin has separated us from God. Therefore, every person needs a savior to provide a way to forgiveness of sin, and a reconciliation with God.
Jesus – We believe that Jesus is the one and only Son of God. He was born of the virgin Mary through the Holy Spirit. He is the only person to live a sinless life upon this earth, making him the only perfect sacrifice for our sins. He lived upon the earth as an example for us, teaching and doing miracles to turn people back to God. He was crucified, buried, and rose again on the third day , triumphant over death and sin. He has ascended to Heaven where He sits at the right hand of the Father, awaiting the time of His return.
Holy Spirit – We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He is working in the world today to comfort, guide and protect God’s people. When a person accepts Jesus as their Savior, they receive the Holy Spirit as their personal indwelling comfort and guide. Having the Holy Spirit in one’s life will exhibit itself through “ love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control”, the fruits of the Spirit. These things will be seen in the life of the person who has the Holy Spirit indwelling their lives.
One God, Three Persons – We believe that the God of the Bible is the one true God. He is, at various times, expressed in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This is often called the Trinity. We believe that God in His infinite wisdom and power is able to accomplish this, being one God in three persons; and that we in our limited knowledge and understanding find this hard to understand. It is one of the mysteries of faith that we will one day understand when we see Him in Heaven.
Sin – We believe that sin came into the world when the first people, Adam and Eve, chose to obey their own desires rather than obeying God. Sin is anything that is not in accordance with the will of God. Since this original sin, sin has been in the world, separating men from God. Each of us is inherently sinful. Since God is completely holy and good, He cannot be in the presence of sin. Therefore all those lost in their sin, are destined to spend eternity apart from God. God desires that all people return to a loving relationship with Him, and has provided a means for our salvation.
Salvation – We believe that God has provided a way for each of our sins to be forgiven, and for us to be returned to a right relationship with him, through the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus. Sin demands that a price be paid for that sin. That price is death, or a blood sacrifice. Each of us deserves to die for our sins, but God sent Jesus as a sinless, perfect blood sacrifice for the sins of everyone in the world. To be saved, we must confess that we have sinned, repent and desire to leave our sin behind, and accept Jesus as our Savior and sacrifice for our sins. When we accept God’s gift of Jesus’ sacrifice, we are able to enter into a right relationship with God, without the separation that sin had caused. Jesus’ blood covers our sins so that they are no longer seen by God. We become a child of God.
A Relationship, Not a Religion – We believe that Christianity is not about a religion, but about a personal relationship with God through His grace and the blood of Jesus. It is about a God who loves His people so much that He sent His one and only Son to die so that we might have a way to come to Him and live with Him forever. Many religions involve a variety of rituals and “good deeds” performed in an effort to draw closer to an unknown and unseen god. Christianity is a personal, loving relationship with the one true God who loves us, cares for us, and is always with us. There are things that Christians do to help them draw nearer to God and to remember the things He has done for them, but these things are not what saves a Christian. Only Jesus’ sacrifice and God’s grace can do that. Christians do perform good deeds, but not as a means of reaching God, but as a way of expressing their love for God and for their fellow man.
Communion or The Lord’s Supper – We believe that Jesus instigated the Lord’s Supper on the night before he died, when He ate His last meal with His disciples. He broke bread and said, “Take and eat; this is my body.” He gave them a cup of wine to drink and said, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” He instructed them that as often as they observed this, they should always do it in remembrance of Him. That is why we observe the Lord’s Supper today, to remember Him and the sacrifice He made that enables us to be forgiven and to enter into a right relationship with God. The bread represents Jesus’ body that was given, and the “fruit of the vine” represents His blood that was shed in the sacrifice that covers our sins and allows us to be saved.
Giving – We believe that God has blessed us with an unending variety of blessings. It is His desire that we use these blessings, not only for ourselves, but to bless others as well. We are to be good stewards of all that he gives us, that is to say that we are to manage His gifts well and use them to their fullest advantage. We have each received spiritual gifts that we are to use for the benefit of others. We have been given financial blessings that we are to use to help those in need, and those who are in need of hearing the good news of salvation through Jesus. We have been given a certain amount of time on this earth that we are to use in His service.
Bible – We believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God, and that it is the sole authority for the way we live and conduct our lives. It is one of God’s ways of communicating with his people. Its teachings are timeless and apply to all people in all ages and all situations. If we are to know what God expects of us and receive His guidance for our lives, we must spend time regularly in His Word. We must learn it well and apply its teachings to our lives. It is one way that we get to know God better and learn His will for us.
Prayer – We believe that prayer is direct communication with God. God has blessed His children with the privilege of coming before Him in prayer at any time. We are free to speak to Him whenever we like, day or night. We may walk boldly into the throne room of the King of Kings and ask Him for guidance, protection and blessing. We may lay our requests before Him, talk to Him about our circumstances and trials, and simply listen for Him to answer. Prayer is one way that we get to know God and His will for us.
The Church – We believe that the Church is the body of Jesus on earth; it is His hands and feet of love to the world. The Church is the body of Believers who gather to worship our Lord, encourage one another and build each other up in the Lord, and to work together to serve others and reach the world with the good news of the salvation available through the sacrifice of Jesus. The universal Church, the Church throughout the world, consists of all believers everywhere. These believers gather in local congregations who unite to worship God, encourage one another, and reach out to their communities with the love and good news of Jesus. We believe that each local congregation is autonomous, that is they do not answer to a “head office”, but make their own decisions regarding the use of their resources, programs and activities to be used to reach others, and so on. Each local congregation of the Church has elders, sometimes called bishops or overseers, who are mature Christians who use their wisdom and experience to lead and guide the people of the congregation. Sometimes there are deacons who serve in various capacities within the congregation. In reality, all Christians are to serve, like deacons, in whatever way they can to make the local Church a beacon of God’s love to the community and the world. The building where the congregation meets is not the Church, the Christians inside are.
The Lord’s Return – We believe that, one day, Jesus will return to take His followers home to be with Him in Heaven. This is the hope and reward of all Christians. There will be a final judgment where those who were saved in Jesus will be allowed to live forever with Him in Heaven, and those who chose to reject His offer of salvation, and refused to serve Him while on earth will be sent to Hell to spend eternity separated from God and all His goodness. We do not know the day or the hour when this will happen so it is best to always be ready for His return.
These are some of the basic beliefs that we believe and base our lives upon. We realize that, even among Christians, there are various ways of doing some things. We believe that the Bible should be the final authority for all things, but that where the Bible is not clear on a subject, we should always preserve the unity of the Church by observing this saying–In essentials unity, in nonessentials liberty, and in all things love.
